Avid compounds bind to VMAT2 in beta cells of the pancreas for imaging diabetes

  • VMAT2 is expressed on the beta cells of the pancreas.
  • Diabetes and pre-diabetes are associated with the loss of insulin-producing beta cells.
  • Avid compounds bind to VMAT2 in the pancreas and allow imaging of the loss of beta cells in diabetes models.

Avid is utilizing its proprietary 18F-VMAT2 PET imaging compounds for animal model and human clinical investigations of imaging beta cells in the pancreas. Avid is working closely with academic diabetes research groups to advance this program in proof-of-concept studies.
